My cat is short haired, but his hair is getting long and shedding, should I cut his hair?

Should I trim my cat's hair if he is a ';short-haired'; cat? Its overgrown, and I brush him all the time, but he still sheds like crazy. My cat is short haired, but his hair is getting long and shedding, should I cut his hair?
All cats (except the Sphinx, which is almost hairless), shed from a little before New Year's until a little after Christmas (in other words, every day of their lives!). Don't trim his hair, just get a good cat brush and brush him. All cats have 2 coats of hair, an undercoat and and ';over';coat. The undercoat is one you don't really see, keeps them ';waterproof'; and gives cats that multishaded look. Also, a mix of shorter and longer hair is used by cats much like their whiskers, as a sensory organ that covers their body. It's sort of like their fingers. The longer hairs make contact with things, like your hand, a wall, the wind... and let kitty know stuff is near him. If it touches the shorter hair, he knows whatever it is is closer to him than where the longer hair ends.

Kitty just needs brushing is all. Depending on his age you may have to start slowly, because some cats like brushing and some don't.My cat is short haired, but his hair is getting long and shedding, should I cut his hair?
Absolutely not. A cat *never* needs to get its hair cut - they managed just fine until they started hanging out with people, and it's only in the last couple of decades that some well-meaning but misguided folk decided it might be OK to trim the cat.

What you're seeing is quite natural. It happens twice a year, although for my cat %26amp; dogs it seems to happen 6 months at a time. You need to brush/comb regularly to remove the hair, although you'll find the cat is quite good at removing the loose hair itself.
should YOU cut his hair. No.

you can take him to a groomer who has appropriate and safe means of grooming a cat and cutting it's hair properly with out risk of slicing the cat's fur - which is a serious issue and all too easy to do if you are not experienced in proper grooming techniques.
Well it's summer time sweetie. Lots of animals shed more in this heat. I know my dog is shedding like crazy! You probably shouldn't cut the cats hair though. I have never heard of anyone doing that, plus the cat might not like it too much. I guess if it is really bothering you, you should call a pet grooming place and just ask them what their opinion is. If they say go for it then go for it hun. Good luck with kitty!
The shedding part is natural, many animals shed during the summer. On the other hand, the fact that your cats actual hair is growing in length, you may want to send it to a pet grooming parlour to have it's hair cut.
Um, no you don't cut the cats hair. A cat sheds normally all year around, not just summer. Just comb your cat with a skinny toothed comb, they usually sell them at vets for like a dollar.
No. Just keep brushing him, he'll be getting his winter coat. I know my domestic medium hair is. (I'm in the UK %26amp; Summer is pretty much over here, its just raining and raining %26gt;.%26lt;)
Its summer. That is why hes shedding like crazy.
If you want. If I were you I wouldn't it is a natural process
you need a different brush, or comb, to remove that dead hair
